Americano Cocktail

Mise en place : Vermouth Rosso , Bitter Campari , Soda Water , Arancia , Limone , Bicchiere Old-fashioned e Stirrer .

Completare con soda water e decorare.

Guarnizione : mezza fetta d’ arancia e una scorza di limone.

Tecnica di procedimento : (Build over ice) direttamente nel bicchiere con ghiaccio.

Procedimento : raffreddare il bicchiere eliminando l’acqua prodotta in quest’ultima fase. Versare gli ingredienti , facendo attenzione che il ghiaccio sia cristallino ; mescere con lo stirrer e guarnendolo con una mezza fetta di arancia e una scorza di limone .

Storia
Secondo alcuni , la nascita dell’ Americano , è dovuto alla metamorfosi del cocktail “Milano -Torino”. Nell’ anno 1876 Antonio Benedetto Carpano a Torino creò e produsse con successo il primo vermout italiano (scelse questo nome riadattando il termine tedesco Wermut usato per una bevanda aromatizzata all’artemisia, un'erba allora usata per distillare l'assenzio) ; mentre agli inizi del ‘800 a Milano grazie a Gaspare Campari , che recandosi a Torino per imparare l’ arte dei liquori , produsse il suo “Bitter Campari” (Per non essere da meno,il signor Gaspare Campari, proprietario di un noto caffè sotto la Galleria di Milano, lanciò alla grande un nuovo aperitivo amaro e per distinguerlo dal vermouth - lo chiamò con un altro nome d’origine germanica: Bitter (amaro) all’Uso d’Hollanda). Nasce il Milano-Torino il gemellaggio nel bicchiere tra le due città, Bitter e Vermouth (rosso) , girerano il mondo nei tumbler serviti, col ghiaccio, in parti uguali con una fetta d’arancio in tutti i locali più trendy, con il nome definitivo di Americano .

Nasce in Italia negli anni '30 e fu imposto dal regime fascista in quanto i suoi componenti erano di produzione esclusivamente nazionale.

Secondo altri, si tratta, sempre di un cocktail creato in Italia negli anni Trenta. Il suo nome, forse dovuto alla moda di americanizzare tutto, è fuori luogo in quanto tra gli ingredienti non c’è nulla ….di americano! Il vermouth è torinese, il Bitter Campari è milanese, così anche la soda water (letteralmente acqua di soda) fu inventata a Milano.

Il nome gli è probabilmente stato dato in onore di Primo Carnera che divenne campione mondiale dei pesi massimi al Madison Square Garden di New York nel 1933. Gli italiani festeggiarono il suo ritorno in patria con questo cocktail che fu chiamato Americano, in ricordo di colui che strappò il titolo agli Stati Uniti.

Carbonated water
Lemon peel
Pour bitters and vermouth into 8-ounce highball glass over a little cracked ice, fill glass with carbonated water; stir slightly. Twist lemon peel over the drink for oil.

Lemon peel
Club soda (optional)
Stir Campari and sweet vermouth well with ice.
Strain into a prechilled cocktail glass.
Twist lemon peel above drink and drop into a glass.
If you prefer, a Delmonico or old-fashioned glass may be used instead - with a rock or two and a splash of soda.
